What once stood as a burned-out shell of a house on Main Street in Garden City, Missouri, is now a stunning example of what vision, craftsmanship, and grit can accomplish. This full-scale renovation by Tim Cross and the team at Cross Kitchens turned a nearly condemned structure into a beautifully finished home that balances historic charm with modern design.
The Story Behind the Remodel
When Tim purchased the property, the home had significant fire damage, structural issues, and a troubled history. Previous tenants had left the property in disrepair, and the damage from a fire that started in a nearby barn had compromised the corner of the home. To most, this might have been a teardown, but Tim saw potential.
“We had to reframe about three-quarters of the house,” Tim said. “It was basically a full rebuild. New framing, electrical, plumbing, siding, windows—you name it, we did it.”
Interior Highlights
Despite its modest 1,500 square feet, the home feels expansive thanks to 12-foot ceilings that open up every room. The interior design was guided by a commitment to cohesive style and functionality:
- Flooring: Hardwood floors with a medium-dark stain run throughout the living spaces, adding warmth and continuity. Bathrooms feature striking black and white marbled tile that pairs with the modern glass shower and stand-alone vanities.
- Kitchen: A central island with white marbled countertops serves as the heart of the kitchen. Gold-framed pendant lighting adds a touch of elegance, while stainless steel appliances and modern white cabinetry round out the space.
- Bathrooms: Both bathrooms were rebuilt from the ground up and feature double vanities with matching marble surfaces, updated lighting, and sleek mirrors for a polished look.
- Lighting and Fixtures: Modern can lighting throughout the home enhances brightness, while white trim, new doors, and updated ceiling fans in each bedroom add to the home’s refreshed aesthetic.
Finishing Touches: A sliding barn door in one of the bedrooms adds character, blending rustic charm with modern finishes.
A Home Reimagined
This renovation didn’t just breathe new life into a single-family home—it brought a blighted property back into the heart of the community. Although the home is now rented and no longer available, it stands as a powerful example of what is possible with determination and thoughtful design.
For Tim Cross and his crew, the project is another chapter in a growing portfolio of revitalized spaces that honor the bones of old homes while creating modern livability.
