Project Showcase: 72nd Street Kitchen Remodel – A Modern Transformation

after shot of a kitchen renovation on 72nd St

At Cross Kitchens KC, we love the opportunity to breathe new life into spaces that hold so much personal history. One of our most recent projects, the 72nd Street Kitchen Remodel, is a prime example of how thoughtful design and skilled craftsmanship can completely transform a home. This was a special project for a couple who had lived in their home for 30 years. After years of dreaming, they were finally ready to give their kitchen the update it deserved.

From Tuscany to Modern Elegance

The couple’s kitchen had previously embraced a Tuscany-inspired style, which had served them well for many years. However, as they prepared for the next chapter in their home, they envisioned something fresh, open, and modern. The goal was to modernize the space, and our team was excited to make that vision a reality.

Bold Cabinetry and Classic Elements

A standout feature of the remodel was the choice of bold cobalt blue cabinetry and a custom-built oven hood that contrasted beautifully with the classic white cabinetry throughout the kitchen. The bold blue cabinetry added a touch of vibrancy, making the kitchen feel both inviting and sophisticated, while the white cabinetry kept the space bright and clean.

Gold hardware was incorporated throughout, from cabinet pulls to faucets, adding a warm and luxurious finish that complemented the new modern design. The inclusion of gold accents brought the entire space together, tying in seamlessly with the sleek lines and contemporary feel.

Maximizing Light and Space

One of the main objectives of the remodel was to create a more open and airy feel. The couple wanted to brighten their kitchen, making it feel fresh and welcoming. To achieve this, we added plenty of lighting, both overhead and accent lighting, to highlight key features like the bold cabinetry and the stunning backsplash. The additional lighting made the space feel larger and more inviting—perfect for cooking, entertaining, and spending time with family.

A Modern Fireplace and New Furniture

Along with the kitchen remodel, the couple decided to update their fireplace area, bringing it in line with the new modern aesthetic. The fireplace update tied the room together and added a cozy touch to this newly reimagined space. When the kitchen was completed, the couple also decided to invest in new furniture, further complementing the modern design and making the entire room feel cohesive.

Designer Doni Gordon’s Expert Touch

As with all our projects, we partnered with Interior Designer Doni Gordon, who took the lead in bringing the couple’s vision to life. Doni’s expertise in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces made all the difference in this remodel. Her keen eye for design ensured that every detail—from the cobalt blue cabinetry to the gold hardware—was perfectly executed. Doni truly helped transform the space into a modern, stylish, and functional kitchen that the homeowners can enjoy for many years to come.

The Finished Result: A Fresh Start

The 72nd Street Kitchen Remodel was a beautiful transformation, taking a dated, Tuscany-style kitchen and turning it into a modern, clean, and open space. The bold cabinetry and gold accents create an inviting yet sophisticated atmosphere, while the new fireplace and furniture tie everything together perfectly.

We’re thrilled to have been part of this journey, and we couldn’t be happier with the final results. The homeowners now have a kitchen that not only meets their needs but also reflects their personal style.
