At Cross Kitchens KC, we’re proud to share one of our most recent and heartwarming projects—the Jefferson Street Kitchen Remodel. This special project was designed with a growing family in mind, featuring an open and functional space perfect for a busy, loving household.
A Family’s Vision: Creating a Space for Growth and Togetherness
The homeowners, a dynamic duo, were in the process of adopting several foster children. As they prepared to welcome a new chapter in their lives, they decided to remodel their kitchen to accommodate their expanding family. With a clear vision in mind, they wanted to create a bright, spacious kitchen that would serve as the heart of their home.
A Spacious, Open Floor Plan
One of the main objectives for the Jefferson Street remodel was to open up the kitchen and living space. To achieve this, we removed a 23-foot wall between the living room and kitchen, completely transforming the layout. This decision was crucial to creating an open floor plan that allowed the space to feel more inviting and expansive—ideal for a growing family.
The new design allowed for a large kitchen island at the center of the space, providing ample counter space for cooking, entertaining, and spending time together. A double fridge was added to meet the needs of a family that requires extra food storage, ensuring that they could easily stock up on groceries for their bustling household.

A Bright and Modern Update
The kitchen was completely reconfigured to make it brighter, more functional, and modern. We replaced the outdated flooring with a fresh, modern option that complements the space’s new design. New lighting brightens the entire kitchen, and the layout was carefully thought out to ensure there is no shortage of natural light.
A modern oven with a sleek vented hood was installed, which not only upgraded the appliances but also added a contemporary look to the kitchen. The new open design gave the room a fresh feel, and the airy atmosphere made it feel welcoming and spacious.
Maximizing Seating for the Whole Family
A key feature of this kitchen remodel was the creation of more seating space. We added a breakfast bar that seats four, allowing for more casual meals and family gatherings. This upgrade was especially important for the homeowners as they needed to ensure everyone had a seat at the table, even as their family size grew.
To complement the kitchen, we designed an open dining area with enough space for two additional tables, each seating four. This means there’s plenty of room for family meals, get-togethers, and all the bonding moments that will happen in this newly redesigned space.
