At Cross Kitchens KC, we love the opportunity to work with homeowners to create spaces that reflect their unique tastes and needs. This kitchen remodel on Leavenworth Street was a perfect example of how a little vision and a lot of work can turn a dated kitchen into a modern, luxurious cooking haven.
A Dream Kitchen for Retirees
The homeowners, a retired couple who had recently moved from out west, wanted to update their kitchen to better match their lifestyle. They had invested in high-end appliances! With a built-in espresso machine/coffee maker and other premium features, the couple was eager to create a kitchen that complemented these luxurious appliances while enhancing functionality.
Our goal was to modernize the space without sacrificing the comfort and charm of their home. With the addition of beautiful, refinished hardwood floors and a soft, fresh white cabinetry that replaced the previous gray tones, we completely transformed the kitchen.
Creating an Open, Airy Space
One of the major updates to this project involved removing a wall between the kitchen and dining room, which allowed for more shelving and a more open floor plan. The result? A kitchen that feels significantly larger and more connected to the rest of the home. The additional shelving provided ample storage and display space, allowing the homeowners to show off their favorite kitchen essentials while maintaining a tidy, organized space.
We also added modern lighting fixtures throughout the kitchen to brighten up the space and showcase the new design. The clean, white kitchen now feels open, bright, and welcoming, creating the perfect backdrop for their impressive new appliances.
Modern Touches to Make a Statement
To make the space truly shine, we installed white granite countertops with gray swirls, which perfectly complemented the updated cabinetry. The natural stone added both elegance and durability, while the subtle veining gave the kitchen a sophisticated look.
A modern vent hood was added to the oven area, creating a streamlined look that is both functional and stylish. The finishing touch? Accent lighting under the cabinets, adding an ambient glow that not only highlights the sleek finishes but also improves task lighting for meal prep.
A Kitchen That’s Built for Comfort and Functionality
The island was another focal point in this renovation. We expanded it to incorporate additional storage—a key consideration for the homeowners. The result is an island that’s both practical and aesthetically pleasing, with ample space for food prep, dining, or entertaining.
